Eau Gallie Upsets Rockledge In Big District Win
Seven innings wasn’t enough as 6A-13 rivals, Eau Gallie Commodores and Rockledge Raiders, needed 10 innings to determine the winner. A sac-fly from the Commodores Clayton Stanley broke the tie in the top of the tenth and the Commodores held on to defeat the Raiders 3-1 on Friday to pick up the district victory on the road.
Ian Kalman and Justin O’Keefe led the way on offense for the Commodores (6-2, 2-0) who never trailed in the game. The two each went 3-for-4 at the plate. Kalman added an RBI, the first run of the game, and O’Keefe scored go-ahead run in the tenth. Seven different batters tallied hits for the Commodores on the night. Trey Jackson also added a run scored as well as a walk, one of five issued throughout the evening.
The Raiders (7-2, 3-1) came into the game winners of three in a row and ranked eighth in the HSBN State Power Rankings. However, the Raiders only managed to get four hits off the Commodores pitchers. Eric Adler, Jake Aurand, Justin Lorenz and Robbie Whitacker all tallied a hit each for the Raiders. Brett Parrish scored the only run for the Raiders in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Starter Justin Lorenz had a strong outing on the mound, going 6.1 innings, allowing one run on six hits and three walks, striking out eight in the process.
Much of the Raiders struggles at the plate were due to the duo of Commodores hurlers Carter Stewart and Jacob Teter. Stewart started the game, going seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, with nine punch outs. Teter picked up the win by pitching the final three frames, walking just one and striking out four. Teter closed out the game and secured the district win in dominate fashion, striking out two in a 1-2-3 tenth inning.
