Titusville Beats Melbourne Central Catholic 7-4 In Nine Innings
A three-run ninth inning lifted the Titusville Terriers to a 7-4 victory over top-seeded Melbourne Central Catholic in Thursday afternoon’s 5A-9 semifinal, advancing Titusville into Friday’s district championship while also securing a berth in the regional playoffs. The Terriers will face #2 seed Satellite in the title game, after the Sandcrabs won 6-5 over Holy Trinity in Thursday’s other semifinal.
Liam Szczerba lined a double to left field to drive in Trey Felker and Jackson Woodward, and then scored on an RBI ground out from Jakob Wiirre for the deciding runs in the ninth. After The Hustlers brought the tying run to the plate with a pair of runners on in the bottom of the seventh, Bobby Guthrie came on in relief to record the final two outs that clinched the Terriers’ place in the regional playoffs. Guthrie was also 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run and Joe Irlbeck went 5-for-5.
